Futurama: Bender's Game - Review

Futurama: Bender's Game
Ages: General Audience

This is the third installment of four new feature length adventures of Futurama. Futurama: Bender's Game is an animated sitcom, created by Matt Groening and David Cohen. David actually introduces the show and talks about the strong influence that Dungeons and Dragons has had upon games and entertainment and concludes with commemorating Gary Gygax, the creator of D&D who recently died.

The story begins with D&D players throwing the dodecahedral die and then warps to the Planet Express Ship which is running out of fuel. Because of the high cost of fuel, the crew, Leela, Fry and Bender decide to go in search of the source of the ultimate fuel - dark matter.

This is a cuttingly funny romp through the D&D genre. Nothing is sacred and the producers steal from every source, so you will find Fredo, the Golum, tree giants, hobbits, the prototype evil mother witch, even Teletubbies are among those that I recognized. What makes it so funny is the they hit the nail on the head. Every classic situation you have been through, or watch your D&D friends sit through is played out here to the extreme insane conclusion.

The bonus disk contains an interesting featurette - How to Draw Futurama in 83 Easy Steps. This is a perfect gift for a D&D fanatic who can take a joke.

Fun Factor: Extreme
Female Factor: Leela rocks
